After rejecting a recommendation from Transport Quebec to restrict right-hand turns on red lights at an intersection on Cité des Jeunes Blvd. in St. Lazare last month, the town’s municipal council last week reversed course and voted in favour of banning the manoeuvre, citing the need to protect pedestrians and cyclists.

It appears Parti Québécois leader Paul St-Pierre Plamandon thought using the old enemy-of-my-enemy-is-my-friend approach to wooing English-speaking voters would somehow be successful. Well, it was not.

Vaudreuil MNA Marie-Claude Nichols will not be seeking re-election in this fall’s provincial vote.

A group of homeowners in Vaudreuil sur le Lac is hoping to convince at least 121 residents of the small town to sign a register later this month to block the municipal council’s plans to buy a wooded area. But the residents are not opposed to the purchase — they simply object to the price, a figure they claim is much higher than the market value based on the town’s own assessment commissioned last year.

In a world that is being engulfed in wildfires, where a war in the Middle East has no conclusion in sight, where artificial intelligence is set to revolutionize economies, where middle-power allies are learning to flex their economic clout, where tariffs have become the economic baseball bat carried by a bully looking to extort lunch money from everyone in the schoolyard, where grift and gangsterism in the White House is put on full display like it is just part of the gilded faux-fashion of the Oval Office, would it be that outlandish to wonder if the crumbling relationship between the U.S. and Canada will come down to milk?

Described as “the largest federal investment ever made in Vaudreuil,” the Canadian government announced a $211-million contribution to the construction of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Hospital earlier this month.

After hitting record-setting levels last year, housing prices in Vaudreuil-Soulanges have cooled somewhat in the first half of 2026, with the region emerging as the only area in Greater Montreal where the median selling price has dropped, according to the latest data from the Quebec Professional Association of Real Estate Brokers.
