November 14, 1924 – February 20, 2025
Peter died at his home in Hudson with one of his loving caregivers at his side. He was predeceased by his wife, Laurette Menard, his parents, Hywel Ivor Hughes and Louise Contance Bloor and his brother, Tony Hughes. Peter served with the British Army’s 24th Lancers and landed at D-Day + 1, June 7th 1944. He later served in the 1st Battalion Royal Tank Regiment.
After the war he was transferred once again to the 15th/19th King’s Royal Hussars and saw more action in Palestine in 1947/48. He received the French Legion of Honour a few years ago while attending a D-Day lunch at the Royal Canadian Legion, Hudson Branch #115 and was a long time member of the D-Day Society and Friends Who Remember.
Peter was blessed with a full life. He was very much an animal lover, nurturing his German Shepherds and galloping through the trails in Saint Lazare on his favourite mount, Aziza. He loved sports cars, in particular the Austin Healy, and made many trips travelling the British countryside in his favourite wheels.
Sincere thanks are extended to Peter’s final team of caregivers who tirelessly supported him at home for many years: Kristina Brisson, Carolyn Barras, Laura Ross, Susan Clunny, Tanya Gaul and Alfie Padirayon; his family physician, Dr. Marie Leclair; and the team of nurses at NOVA Hudson.
Following his internment in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, a memorial luncheon will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Hudson Branch #115, 56 rue Beach, Hudson, QC J0P 1H0
In lieu of flowers, donations to NOVA Hudson, 201-465 rue Main, Hudson, QC, J0P 1H0 or on line at https://www.novahudson.com/Donations.htm would be gratefully received.
